Panic attacks can be terrifying experiences. The dread and anguish as the symptoms present themselves, getting worse and worse whilst you feel unable to do anything once in the attack. What can make it seem even worse is often the lack of warning and apparent lack of trigger for the attack. It’s as if they can come from out of nowhere.

If you feel four or more of the following symptoms then you can be diagnosed with panic attacks:
- Fear that you’re going to go crazy or are about to die
- Terror that is almost paralysing
- Racing heartbeat
- Dizziness, light-headedness or nausea
- Trembling, sweating, shaking
- Choking, chest pains
- Hot flushes, or sudden chills
- Tingling in fingers or toes (pins and needles)
- Difficulty breathing, feeling as though you ‘can’t get enough air’
